DAY SCHOOL PROGRAM
Let us do the hard work for you!
We know life is busy and puppies can be demanding, especially in their first few months. The secret to raising a great dog is starting them off right as a puppy!
PUPPY PRESCHOOL PROGRAM
WHAT IS PUPPY PRESCHOOL?
Taught by our Certified Dog Trainer, our Puppy Preschool program is a 4 or 6 week puppy training and socialization curriculum designed for young puppies aged 8-20 weeks.
Puppies this age are in a critical stage of development for their social and life skills, and we know life can be busy so our program ensures consistency in training your young puppy during the day, and teaching you the skills in a weekly class with your puppy so you can both be on the same page. Let us do the hard work for you, and you can enjoy a happy puppy at home!
Our Puppy Preschool curriculum includes:
Daylong potty training outdoors (potty on command)
Daily training in our Puppy Preschool room
Sit, Down, Recall ("Come!"), crate training, leash walking, and greeting other dogs nicely.
Safe play and socialization skills
One-on-one training time
Our program includes:
2 puppy grooms
4 consecutive weeks of Puppy Preschool training
Choose to add on an additional 2 weeks of Puppy Preschool training for a total of six weeks! Get more socialization and extra training to help make your pup well rounded and socialized.
WHY DO WE START PUPPIES SO YOUNG?
Research show that starting to socialize your puppy at 8 weeks helps them to develop better social skills and confidence, rather than waiting until they are 4 months or older to start socializing and training. Socializing is great for puppies and also is a preventative step against behavioural problems as they grow up such as fear, and anxiety.
Starting to train and reinforce good behaviours in your puppy while they're young, means that cute tolerable puppy behaviours (like mouthing) won't become an unbearable problem as they grow up. Training puppies from a young age helps create consistency for them and results in consistent behaviours at home. Avoiding frustrations with your dog's behaviours helps your bond so you can enjoy your relationship, rather than feeling frustrated by your dog's behaviours.
What about vaccinations?
Puppies must have their first Distemper/Parvovirus vaccination at least 7 days prior to their first day of Preschool, and must be kept up to date during their time at Gus's Pet Resort.
While it used to be recommended that puppies not be socialized until after their third set of puppy vaccines at 16 weeks, research now shows us that waiting this long can be at the detriment of their social skills, and the risk of diseases is quite low if they have received their first or second set of vaccinations.
PUPPY ESSENTIALS CLASS
If Puppy Preschool isn't quite what you're looking for and you want to do more of the work at home, our 6 week Puppy Essentials class might be perfect for you. Our trainer will take you and your puppy through a 6 week curriculum teaching you how to train and reward your puppy to teach them behaviours and life skills. Our classes include puppy playtime (critical for young puppies), recall, sit, down, leash walking tips, crate and potty training.
Want to know if our Puppy Essentials is right for you? Contact our trainer at to find out more, or register for our Puppy Socialization Drop-In class to meet our trainer and experience a class.
PUPPY SOCIALIZATION DROP-IN
If you're looking for a safe place to socialize your puppy, bring them on down to our Puppy Socialization class! No commitment necessary to a larger program, this is just a great opportunity to come meet other puppies under the guidance a professional dog trainer.
